Bangkok’s Royal Palace and Wat Phra Kaeo complex are incredible Thai architecture and art displays. The complex is one of the most visited places, not just in Thailand, but in all of Asia.
Built during the late-18th century, the complex includes beautiful buildings covered in gold and spectacular jewels. There is nothing like it anywhere else in the world.
Wat Phra Kaeo temple, commonly known in English as the “Temple of the Emerald Buddha,” contains the country’s most precious Buddha image. It is the most sacred Buddhist temple in Thailand, and each Thai King has added to the temple.

The temple is the nation’s preeminent place of worship and a national shrine for the monarchy and the Thai people.
The pinnacle of architecture and Thai religious art, the buildings and stupas are golden. In addition, there are a thousand different hues of glass, stone, tile, and painting all about you. It’s unbelievable with its golden stupas glittering in the sun, looking like something out of a fairytale.
Since 1782 the Palace is the official residence of the Kings of Siam before the name was changed to Thailand.
Any visit to Bangkok must include a visit to this incredibly beautiful and historical Royal Palace complex.

Hi Jim,
Visiting the Grand Palace and Wat Arun on the other side of the river and completely different still knocks my socks off 50 years later. I took a zillion photos back then when I had to pay for every roll of film and hope it didn’t get damaged going through the airport X-ray machines. I’d take 2 zillion now. Walking through these temples is like taking a train through Switzerland; each view is more magnificent than the last one.
Cheers – Stan
