John and Sandra Nowlan are veteran travel and food writers who have visited and written about all seven continents and more than 120 countries. Their award-winning articles and photos have appeared in newspapers, magazines and websites in Canada, the United States, Britain, and Australia.
John is a former radio and television producer, director, and executive producer for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). Shows he created have won an International Emmy, three Geminis (Canada’s top TV award), The Japan Prize and the top prize at the New York Festivals.
Personal awards include a Michener Media Fellowship (for “Meritorious Public Service in Journalism”), the Asia-Pacific Foundation of Canada Fellowship and the Commonwealth Relations Trust Bursary. He has studied and lectured about public television in Britain, Australia, Malaysia, and Singapore and holds degrees from Acadia University, King’s College, and St. Mary’s University.
Sandra is a food scientist and educator with degrees from Acadia University, Cornell University, and Dalhousie University. She is the author of three cookbooks, and a board member of several scientific, cultural and heritage organizations. A former research scientist at The Fisheries Research Board of Canada, she also has an Associate Computer Professional designation.
